Biography

Joris Dik (*1974, Amsterdam) studied art history and classical archaeology at the University of Amsterdam. He was a Getty Graduate Intern at the Museum Services Lab of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He graduated with a Ph.D in chemistry in 2003 at the University of Amsterdam. Joris set up a research group on materials in art and archaeology at the dept of Materials Science and Engineering with personal research grants of NWO, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.

His work focuses on non-destructive imaging techniques for the characterization of artworks. Joris has collaborated with different partners from academia, large-scale research institutions, museums and industry. In 2012 he was appointed member of the Young Academy at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). He is currently chairman of the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering at TU Delft.
