ChemistryNL presents: Innovation towards sustainable plastics

Chair: Moniek Tromp
Speakers: Luc Leufkens (TNO), Hendrik Tjaden (The Compound Company), Jingxiu Xie (RUG), Niels Schenk (BioBTX),

ChemistryNL strives to bring together industry and knowledge institutes through public-private partnerships with the aim to tackle global challenges in the field of health, circularity and green chemistry. The challenges for the plastic industry are multifaceted, ranging from environmental concerns over pollution and waste management to technological hurdles in creating novel smart polymer materials (1) and recycling methods (2). In this focus session, we want to bring forward two public-private partnership projects that were subsidized by ChemistryNL which contribute innovative research addressing these challenges:

  1. Development and Demonstration of Thermochromic Polyolefin Elastomer Interlayers for Smart Safety Glazing (SunSmart POE)
  2. PolyOlefins Recycling to Aromatics

We have planned two presentations (15 minutes each) and will complete the session with an interactive discussion with speakers and involvement of the audience (15 minutes) related to the projects presented. What makes this session unique is the collaboration between industry and academic research, and to that end we will invite both the academic and industry partner to contribute in a dual-presentation.
