Electro-organic Synthesis

Chair: Fernandez Ibanez
Speakers: Edgars Suna, Helena Ehren (UvA)

The field of electro-organic synthesis, in which electrons are used as “reagent” is developing at an incredible speed. Novel reactivity is discovered  leading to the preparation of previously inaccessible compounds and a strong argument in favor of electrochemistry is that it is “green”. Many, but not all, of the leading groups in this field are based in the US. A number of research groups in The Netherlands have also embarked on this topic and the first results have appeared in literature. In this focus session we would like to draw attention to this new development in chemistry that has considerable impact on the way we make compounds, also in industry. Therefore we propose to invite Prof Edgars Suna from Latvia who is an expert in the synthesis of complex molecules using electrochemistry, together with Dr Helena Ehren, a postdoc at the UvA who develops
novel electrochemistry methodology.
